The beautiful Tropical Rainforests are generally located around the belt of the equator, in the Amazon basin in South America, the Congo basin and other lowland regions in Africa, and they are both on the mainland and the islands off of Southeast Asia.
Abiotic Factors
Abiotic factors are the non-living chemical and physical parts of the environment that affect ecosystems. Some abiotic factors that are included in Tropical Rainforests include soil, rocks, water, light, and weather.
Flora
Flora refers to the plants of a particular region, habitat, or geological period.
Bengal bamboo grows fast and has short roots in order to get sunlight faster.
Bougainvillea hooks and clings on to others to support itself.
Jambu stores water in its trunk so its available when needed.
Kapok trees have large buttress roots which help support the plant and anchor roots deep into the poor soil of the tropical rainforests.
Fauna
Fauna refers to the animals of a particular region, habitat, or geological period.
Spider monkeys have adapted to the tropical rainforests by having long powerful tails that they can use as an extra limb to swing from branch to branch.
Toucans have adapted to their biome by having large beaks to open and eat fruit that are grown in the tropical rainforests.
Poison-arrow frogs have bright vivid colors that warns predators to keep away from them. They have adapted this physical appearance because there are many predators living in the tropical rainforests.
Sloths grow green moss on their fur to help them camouflage into the trees. They also have three long claws on each limb to help clime up trees to get away from all of their predators in the rainforest
Cooperating Species
Some cooperating species in the tropical rainforest include the Acacia Ants and how they interact with an Acacia tree. The ants protect the plant from insects and vines, and in return, the tree supplies the ants with food and a place to live.
Competing Species
Some examples of competition is plants compete for sunlight in the canopy. Monkeys compete for the better trees with the most fruit. Humans tearing down parts of the rainforest vs. all the animals that make their homes in the trees.
